The concept of TourismStuff started back in August 2006, on the realisation that tourism within New Zealand, on the Internet, was rather fragmented. Each sector was operating rather alone, so a bringing together on a national basis seemed to be desirable. So in February 2007 TourismStuff starting hiring agents from Northland to Fiordland to capture data on a realtime basis across the net, but hosted in USA. By mid-year we had over 20 agents on board.
At the height of this exercise Glenn became our programmer, and the hosting came back to New Zealand. With a mainframe banking background, moving strongly into PCs everywhere, and the Internet taking hold on many fronts, we slowly moved from back-pages to the Home Page for Users. Direction for the project was instigated by John Story, with a background in computer companies stretching back 40 years to his time in IBM New Zealand, but more recently as a part owner of Computer Broking Services Limited (and CBS Computers Limited indirectly). So between Glenn and John many issues have been worked through on an on-going basis, along with co-ordinating tasks being undertaken by field agent and others. The software may appear simple, but underneath it is doing a lot of things....with data capture, photos, text/documents, territories, categories, itineraries, users/passwords, providers, email/transmission control, accounting in various forms, credit card interactions, category & territory marketing, Home Page Provider-scheduled advertising (pending) etc. 'Gloss' has yet to come to TourismStuff, and it will !
I expect to move TourismStuff from a one person investment to at least one other, during the next few months. TourismStuff is not one of those static sites. It is an ongoing development, on the fly. The listings database might already be around 23,000 records (when we thought just getting to 8,000 records would be a great target), but by year end we should be another 2>3,000 records. Our nearest rival is only 12,000 records, and they have a billion dollar empire behind them ! Like all good ideas, software development will be on-going there in the background, but at the public level you the User will see "TourismStuff" come into focus as Provider paid monies are turned back into marketing and system enhancements etc.
We look forward to your support !
